What’s an "ISDN LAN Modem"?
It’s 3Com’s way of naming the tremendous breadth of functionality we’ve put into
this one OfficeConnect® product. The OfficeConnect ISDN LAN Modem integrates a
TCP/IP access router, a four-port Ethernet Hub, an ISDN BRI interface, two voice
ports (for fax machines and other analog devices), and TCP/IP server software to
give small offices everything they need for a complete communications solution.
And if you add an external Hub to the OfficeConnect ISDN LAN Modem, up to ten
users on a small office LAN can share access to the ISDN line, making multiuser
Internet dial-up easy, fast, and affordable. Smart features in the ISDN LAN
modem automatically assign bandwidth around voice or fax calls, so you can talk
on the phone while sending or receiving data over the digital link. With the
OfficeConnect ISDN LAN Modem, an entire office needs just one telephone line to
satisfy multiple users and multiple communications needs. You’ll be up and
running in just 15 minutes.
• Intelligent management of ISDN B-channels gives you
simultaneous access to two different ISPs, concurrent voice and data calls, or
channel "bonding" with Multilink PPP for fast 128 Kbps connections —all over a
single line
• Unconstrained by the computer’s serial port, the ISDN LAN
modem uses a 3Com Ethernet interface and LZS (Stac) data compression to reduce
transfer time and deliver high-performance connections to every computer on the
LAN
• A built-in Network Address Translation (NAT) and DHCP server
eliminate the need to manage TCP/IP addressing; built-in DNS server adds extra
Internet functionality
• Flexible call routing lets you use either analog port to answer the phone or
fax, direct calls to either port, and restrict calls to the analog ports in use
• A built-in NT-1 (U interface) or S/T interface, SPID Wizard
software, CD-ROM tutorial, and all necessary cables make installation and ISDN
configuration fast and simple to complete
