Tylink 3250 Overview
The TyLink 3250 is a single-port T1/FT1 DSU/CSU with an integral SNMP agent
which can be accessed via SLIP or Ethernet attachment. Offering the industrys
most cost-effective SNMP-managed DSU/CSU solution, the TyLink 3250 connects LAN
routers, CDPD (wireless) equipment, video codecs and other digital devices to
the wide area network.
The TyLink 3250 provides flexible management capabilities: it can be managed
through an ASCII terminal, through SNMP via a built-in SNMP agent and SLIP port
or Ethernet attachment, or via TELNET. All TyLink 3250 capabilities available
through the terminal interface can also be accessed via SNMP, including complete
support for GETs, SETs and TRAPs. The TyLink 3250 accepts new software loads
locally or from a remote site via a modem, which reduces maintenance costs by
eliminating the need for remote site visits to update the product.
Extensive Performance Monitoring Information
The TyLink 3250 monitors the performance of the network in fifteen minute
increments and maintains a twenty-four hour history of performance monitoring
information. This information includes:
- CRC-6 errors
- Out of frame events
- Error events
- Errored seconds*
- Severely errored seconds*
- Failed signal state
- Failed seconds*
- Bipolar violations*
- Bursty errored seconds
*saved as historical data in 96 sets of 15 minute intervals

BENEFITS
The TyLink 3250 provides the following
benefits:
- full range of features allows
flexible access for frame relay as well as standard digital networks -
this allows standardization and ease of
use in many different applications
- operates in a wide range of
management environments via a variety of access methods independent of the
type of router - this allows
users to standardize on one product, saving installation time and maximizing
investment
- plentiful and flexible diagnostics
and robust performance monitoring capabilities enable timely resolution of
network problems - this
maximizes network uptime
Applications
The TyLink 3250 is used in point-to-point T1 or FT1 applications to provide
frame relay and digital network access for routers and other digital devices,
including CDPD (wireless) equipment and video codecs.
The TyLink 3250 can also aggregate remote site traffic from 56 Kbps devices,
such as the Tylink 1250, onto one T1 circuit.
Flexible Management Capabilities
The Tylink 3250 supports a variety of management methods including a VT-100
interface with access via TELNET or ASCII terminal or modem, and an integral
SNMP agent that can be accessed via a SLIP port or optional Ethernet attachment.
These methods allow management through all types of digital networks, including
frame relay. A complete implementation of SNMP is provided with the TyLink 3250
including GETs, SETs and TRAPs as well as standard MIBs and MIB extensions.
The TyLink 3250 is also supported by an element management application,
called TyViewฎ Plus, which integrates with HP OpenView for HP UX and Sun Solaris
as well as NetView for AIX platforms. TyView Plus provides a simple "point and
click" interface as an alternative to using the complex MIB browsers commonly
used today.
